FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) has stressed the need for cooperation among the business community, the Punjab government and USAID to promote trade and industry in the province.
Addressing a USAID delegation on the Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP), FCCI President Engineer Suhail Bin Rashid underlined the importance of small and medium entrepreneurs in the overall development of Pakistan. He said that SMEs must be encouraged in dairy, horticulture and livestock sectors.
“Pakistan is the world’s fourth largest milk producing country; we also produce huge quantities of fruits and vegetables,” the FCCI chief pointed out, adding that with 40 percent post-harvest losses the country remained deprived of the benefits.
Bin Rashid appreciated the efforts of USAID in capacity building and assured full cooperation of the FCCI.
Meanwhile, USAID team leader Muhammad Junaid team explained objectives of the PEEP.
In the first phase, policy and legislative reforms will be introduced while in the second phase, capacity building of government departments concerned would be ensured. In the last phase, industrial analysis and feasibility studies will be carried out.
