ISLAMABAD: The Inland Revenue Department of the Federal Board Revenue (FBR) has started collecting data of buyers and sellers to stop the theft of sale tax, sources said.
Sources revealed that the buyers receive full sales tax of goods that they provided to the big restaurants, hotels and private airlines but showed either a little or zero amount in inventories. According to the FBR, a clear difference of amount has been found in inventories of buyers and sellers . Thus sellers have been receiving full sales tax from the buyers but show zero percent and this way they steal sales tax worth millions of rupees.
Islamabad supermarket inventory showed the purchase of Rs 536,817 and paid Rs 85,891 but sellers did not show it at all and put all sales tax in their pockets. Similarly, SJM (Private) Limited did not pay Rs 91,920 sales tax on its Rs 540,707 inventory. Shaheen Airlines bought goods worth Rs 639,188 through thee inventories and paid Rs 102,270 sales tax to the seller but the selling company showed Rs 213,128 and paid Rs 34,100 sales tax. Likewise hundreds of companies have stolen sales tax.
