LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Inland Revenue (IR) officers will survey local markets to curb the trade of smuggled goods.
As per details, the FBR has started an operation to stop the trade of smuggled goods in the market. Trade of smuggled goods is damaging Pakistan’s economy and also creating hurdles for the FBR to achieve revenue collection target for the current fiscal year. This has compelled officers of IR intelligence to visit markets and confiscate smuggled goods.
The FBR has directed the officials that smuggled items should be seized on spot and cases be lodged against the culprits and department has also decided to activate the intelligence unit of IR in this regard. The accused will be put behind bars and heavy penalties will be imposed.
The FBR has observed that trade of smuggled items like cigarettes, beverages, cars and textile products were being done on large scale in local markets that was not only damaging the economy but also create hurdles in achieving revenue collection target.
Sources said that IR directorate general has started to draw the strategies to obey the orders. They added that people would be motivated to coordinate with the department to eliminate the trade of smuggled items.
