KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to take action against beauty parlours and luxury saloons involved in tax evasion.
Additional Commissioner Raja Mehmood told Customs Today that the FBR has also taken action against more than 1,200 blacklisted companies for receiving billions of rupees taxes on fake receipts. Show cause notices will be issued to them from Monday and this operation will be carried on till next month.
The FBR sources told that action would be taken against beauty parlors, luxury saloon, sugar and cement sectors in the first phase.
A vigorous operation is likely to start against the tax evaders in November and December. Sources said the FBR failed to meet revenue targets due to tax evasion by the beauty parlors, luxury saloon, and cement and sugar sectors.
The FBR is finalizing plans in this regard. Sources said action would be taken from Monday (today) and officials have been ordered to collect all details in this regard. They said an improved strategy would be devised to cope with tax evaders from these sectors.
The FBR had given directions to the officials of Inland Revenue so that they would send sales tax notices to those companies who got refund claims on fake slips.
