ISLAMABAD: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Abdul Rauf Chaudhary has said that the country’s tax system needs reforms and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) must adopt strict accountability system against those who are avoiding to file tax returns.
He expressed these views while speaking to the FTO advisory committee members. He said there are flaws and flexibility in the tax laws and the FBR should review the same carefully.
The meeting of the advisory committee held under the chairmanship of Abdul Rauf Chaudhary at Islamabad FTO office which was attended by the all 13 members.
He said that the Federal Tax Ombudsman Secretariat is providing cheap and speedy justice to the taxpayers aggrieved due to mal-administration.
Our top priority is to remove tax related irritants, reduce cost of doing business and promote conducive tax culture in our country to ensure good governance.
He said Federal Tax Ombudsman and taxpayer interface has been established through periodic meetings with chambers of commerce and industry, trade bodies, business associations, tax bars and the civil society Organizations in the country.
The advisory committee has decided to put forward some suggestions and proposals regarding the tax reforms, to the Federal Board of Revenue and Ministry of Finance for the Finance Act 2017.
