ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sent Regional Tax Office (RTO-II) Lahore case of suspicious refund of Rs 19.243 million to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Sources told Customs Today that during annual audit of RTO-II, the audit team pinpointed huge irregularities in refund cases. These irregularities were made after obtaining forged NTN certificates, duplicate refunds, bogus deduction certificates and record tempering. Now NAB will investigate the matter and decide future course of action.
It is pertinent to mention here that the audit team, during audit process, also asked for the proof of refund claims. The authorities are also examining the reasons for not detecting the issue well before time.
