ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sought complete details of off shore companies owned by Pakistani nationals, including the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family, from relevant authorities. Panama, being a member of Organization of Economic Cooperation for Development (OECD), is bound to provide all the required information to all 104 member countries.
It is pertinent to mention here, that Pakistan and Panama are the signatory of OECD convention, and the FBR has sent a letter to Panama tax authorities to provide the complete details of off shore companies and their Pakistani account holders.
It is also important to mention here that the FBR has sent a list of those Pakistanis who are owners of off shore companies and their names are already published in the media.
According to the FBR sources, the names of the prime minister, his sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz and daughter Mariam Nawaz are also included in the list.
Sources said that after receiving the letter from FBR, Panama tax and other relevant authorities started their work and they are collecting required information.
According to sources, FBR is taking Panama case seriously and their investigations are still underway. Although process of investigations is slow but in coming days it may be result oriented and several ‘big fish’ can be caught in the net.
