LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue Regional Tax office II Lahore has issued almost Rs 850 million tax refunds to the taxpayers in last six months.
As per detail, RTO II had issued almost Rs 625 million during same corresponding period of the last fiscal year. An official said that RTO II has issued more refunds to taxpayers than the last year to eradicate the problems of business community. He said that FBR policy was followed by every field office to handle the tax refunds cases. He further added that delay and mismanagement in refund cases will be eliminated to expedite the work process. “No doubt, corruption was a factor that was creating problems for both taxpayers and department that should be discouraged at every level,” he said.
On the other hand, a tax lawyer responded that Rs 850 million refunds were minor amount like cumin in a camel mouth. He said there were cases of billion of rupees refunds in FBR. Business community has approached the department many times to get clearance of refunds soon, but no action has been taken.
He further said that business community needed investment to run the businesses, while the FBR delayed the cases of refunds for long times that could damage the businesses of the people. He said that it was not the matter of only RTO II but the whole department that should be resolved on war footings.
