ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) received 6,42,572 tax returns until December 4, 2016. These tax returns were filed by associations of persons, individuals and corporate sectors while 487,197 tax returns were received during the same period of the previous financial year.
Sources told Customs Today that statistics show that 32 percent extra tax returns are received during the current fiscal year as compared to the previous year. Sources said that nowadays taxpayers prefer to file their tax returns through online system and the trend of filing tax returns manually is gradually decreasing.
Sources said that FBR will easily process to tax returns in this way as people now prefer to file their tax returns through computer. During previous fiscal year 37,021 taxpayers filed their tax returns manually. Sources said that during current fiscal year 6,10,186 tax payers filed their tax returns individually, while 4,60,214 persons filed tax returns during previous financial year. In FY 2016 association of persons (AOPs) 30,128 filed their tax returns while during financial year 2016 25,051 filed their returns returns.
Sources said that during current Fiscal Year 2,262 tax returns were received through corporate sector while in year 2016, 1932 tax returns were filed by corporate sector. Sources said that FBR is optimistic that at least 15 to 20 percent new taxpayers will file their tax returns in current Fiscal Year 2016-17.
