KARACHI: Member-Legal, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shaukat Ali has asked the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I and II to produce record of the cases being adjudicated during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2016-17, it is learnt here.
The sources informed Customs Today that the Member-FBR Lagal, through a letter, has asked the Collector-Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Surriya Ahmed Butt and Collector of the Customs Adjudication-II Jawed Chaudhary to send a detailed report of the cases adjudicated by those collectorates during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
The sources further said that the Member Legal-FBR has also asked the authorities of both the of the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication-I and II to also settle down the issue of jurisdiction within the Collectorates and also inform him about the latest development in this regard.
The sources further said that the Member-Legal, FBR has also expressed his satisfaction over the cases being adjudicated by the authorities of both of the Collectorates and also said that the authorities should continue the same pace in this regard.
Replying to a query, the sources said that the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I and II have almost adjudicated around 20 cases altogether in which millions of rupees Order-in Originals (ONOs) have already been sent to the accused parties in which it has been directed that the accused parties should deposit the fine/penalty imposed on them after adjudicating the cases.
The sources further informed that the authorities of the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication-I and II have directed the staff to compile the report in this regard as soon as possible, so that they can submit the same before the Member-Legal-FBR Customs.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Member-Legal, FBR Customs Muhammad Shaukat Ali was visited the Custom House, last week and also held meetings with the authorities concerned of the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication-I and II.
