ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Member Legal & Accounting-Customs Sarwat Tahira Habib has been transferred and posted as Federal Tax Ombudsman.
Sources told Customs Today that former chairperson FBR Rukhsana Yasmin had recommended Sarwat Tahira Habib for the post of Member Customs but Election Commission of Pakistan rejected transfers and postings in Pakistan Customs due to general elections 2018.
It is necessary to mention here that Sarwat Tahira was promoted to BS-22 on October 11, 2017 and posted as Chief Collector of Customs (North) in Islamabad. Then she was transferred and posted as FBR Member (Legal & Accounting-Customs) on December 20, 2017.
Sarwat Tahira Habib is one of the most outstanding and illustrious officers of Pakistan Customs Service. She started her career in Pakistan Customs by joining the Central Superior Services with the 13th CTP. She has a Masters Degree in Journalism from Punjab University and a Masters Degree in Public Policy & Administration from the University of Southampton, UK. She has also attended numerous courses and trainings in Belgium, Singapore, USA, China, Jordan, Sri Lanka & Japan. She also participated in NWSC at NDU, Islamabad.
She has an extensive operational and management experience in areas of administration, enforcement and compliance in National Customs, Excise & Sales tax. She has remained actively involved in formulation and implementation of strategic tax management and compliance plans. Exposure to Donor agencies, liaison with DFID, USAID, JICA, UNDOC adds to her vast administrative expertise. She has also actively contributed to Customs Administrative Reforms and Customs Automation.
During her illustrious career she has served on key posts in Pakistan Customs including Chief Collector (North), Director General (IPR), Director Intelligence & Investigation FBR, Chief (Management) FBR, Chief (International Customs & Tariff) FBR, Collector of Customs, MCC Islamabad etc.
