ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has imposed complete ban on the import of at least 470 used household electronic appliances and its accessories including LCDs, LEDs, Digital Quran, bluetooth, vehicle tracking systems, CCTV cameras, cordless headsets, memory cards, headphones, hairdryers and microwave oven; however, used computers and its parts can be imported.
Official sources told Customs Today that 3 to 20% of customs duty is imposed on these imported items.
Sources told that government to narrow the gap between imports and exports is formulating strong policies; however, with such revenue shortfall, it seems difficult for the government to achieve its goals. With putting a ban on the import of such items, it will further negatively affect the revenue in the head of customs duty.
It is also important to highlight here that the government has also imposed a ban on import of a long range of used and second-hand machinery.
