LAHORE: A vast majority of leading industrialists and emerging entrepreneurs attended a seminar on “Expanding Exports” arranged by the Directorate General of Training and Research (Customs) Lahore in collaboration with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry the other day. Customs officers and officials from all the collectorates and directorates of the central region were also present.
Faiz Ahmed, Chief of Exemptions and Exports, FBR, and Nauman Aslam, Director of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, were invited as guest panelists along with Amer Rashid, Additional Collector of the Customs, Preventive, Lahore.
Saima Shahzad, Director of DGTR (Customs), Lahore, welcomed the participants in her opening address.
Faiz Ahmed started the discussion and explained the five major schemes in place to promote the exports in Pakistan. He elaborated the government’s role in providing an enabling environment to boost the exports. He also highlighted other multiple incentives given to the textile sector for enhancement of exports. He urged the members of the business community to play their due part in mending Pakistan’s economy by expanding exports.
Nauman Aslam, Director TDAP, highlighted some export promotion programs and subsidies given as part of the trade policy. He exhorted the trade bodies to ensure institutional connectivity to improve the future of exports. Amer Rashid, Additional Collector, MCC, Preventive, Lahore, discussed the operational issues at ports and shared the initiatives taken to facilitate the legitimate trade.
The panel discussion was followed by an open question-answer session which was moderated by Saima Shahzad, Director, and Kanwal Ali, Deputy Director, DGTR (Customs), Lahore.
Vice-President, LCCI, Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan gave a vote of thanks and greatly appreciated the DGTR (Customs) Lahore for their milestone initiative to enlighten the business community, on a very relevant topic.
At the end, Saima Shahzad, Director, DGTR (Customs), Lahore, presented shields to the president, LCCI and the guest panellists.
