MULTAN: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) directed all Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to adopt necessary legal procedure before the attachment of bank accounts of defaulters.
According to details, chief commissioner observed that few tax officers ignored the laid procedure before the attachments of bank accounts of defaulters, and business community of Multan has expressed severe concern over the attachment of bank accounts.
Business community demanded chief commissioner Regional Tax Office Multan Abid Hussain Bodhla to stop attachment of bank accounts of defaulters without prior notices.
Business community informed chief commissioner RTO that attaching accounts was no solution to recover default amount from taxpayers and it creates obstacles for business community because of its impact on business accounts, therefore bank accounts attachment should only be done with prior approval of the Chief Commissioner.
Chief Commissioner Regional Tax Office Multan Abid Hussain Bodhla has directed his tax officers of all zones to take prior approval before the attachment of bank accounts of defaulters after completing all legal formalities for recovery of outstanding tax amount.
Chief Commissioner Abid Hussain Bodhla has directed all tax officers to take strict action against defaulters under Income Tax Ordinance 2001 section 140 and take permission before attaching any bank accounts and if he found that tax officers has completed all legal procedure then he will allow them to attach any bank accounts for the recovery of arrears, otherwise he will direct tax officers to complete standard operating procedure before action.
