MULTAN: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Office (RTO) has directed government school teachers to file their income tax returns of financial year 2018-19 before August 2, 2019.
The Federal Board of Revenue Regional Tax Office has asked government school teachers which are teaching in primary, elementary secondary, technical, special and literacy schools to file their income tax returns of financial year 2018-19.
The Federal Board of Revenue has found that thousands of government school teachers are not filing their income tax returns and they are non-filers and avoid filing tax returns on their earnings.
Tax authorities found that majority of government schools teachers are earning handsome income through teaching in schools and teachers are also generating handsome revenue from their private coaching institutes and academies.
Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) has also pointed out huge number of government school teachers to teaching in different schools and these teachers are also non-filer and avoid filing income tax returns on their earnings.
The Federal Board of Revenue has asked School Education Department to assist them by ensuring their government schools teachers file their Income tax returns before 2nd August. District Education Officer Secondary, Primary, Elementary and Literacy has also issued circular to their teachers to fulfill their national responsibility by filing Income tax returns in time.
Sources informed Customs Today that FBR will take strict action against non-filer government school teachers under Section 114 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, employees earning taxable income and they were required to file their income tax returns
