ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has directed Model Customs Collectorate collector to reassess the customs duty imposed on a van imported by Chinese engineering company working at Chashma Nuclear Power Plant. The customs has assessed the duty at Rs 5.5 million.
As per details, the company has imported a van for the transportation of its workers in 1995 on which FBR had given exemptions in wake of duty/taxes after the letter sent by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
The van remained in the use of the company during 1995-2012. In 2012, the atomic commission wrote a letter to assess the tax liable on the vehicle as it was not anymore required to the company. And the customs determined Rs 5.5 million as duty/taxes.
Later, the company urged the FBR saying that duty tax has not been determined according to the law as vehicle is not more than a waste. Therefore, FBR has directed the customs authorities to reassess the value.
