LAHORE: FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa held a high level strategic planning meeting with key Customs officials to review performance of Lahore region regarding revenue collection and anti-smuggling.
The chairman held meeting with 40 officials of Customs including Chief Collector Lutfullah Virk, Lahore Collector of Customs Junaid Akram, Collector of Customs Multan Touseef Ahmad Qureshi, Collector of Customs Faisalabad Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, Director Investigation and Intelligence Mujeebur Rehman Abbasi, Assistant Collector Mukarram Ja, Additional Collector Sadia Munib and other officials of Preventive and Appraisment.
During the meeting, the chairman was briefed over the performance of Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan for July and August. He was told that Lahore collected Rs1.49 billion in two and a half months of current fiscal year. He was also informed that anti-smuggling unit of Lahore launched 81 cases against the smugglers of contraband goods and articles, while Multan and Faisalabad launched 31 and 35 cases respectively. FBR Chairman appreciated Lahore Customs Anti-Smuggling Unit that surpassed Multan and Faisalabad in seizures.
According to details, the meeting was held at the building meeting room of MCC Lahore on Monday. Sources said that the chairman was very much concerned about the financial year’s revenue targets and he instructed the collectors of three regions including Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan to do their utmost to achieve the annual target. He also asked them to come up with suggestions to improve the revenue collection mechanism.
Earlier, the chairman reached MCC Lahore at 2pm on Monday and finished his meeting with the Customs top officials at 4pm. He will leave for Islamabad on Tuesday, sources said.
