FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated Indian origin grey fabrics worth Rs5.9million involving Customs Duty of Rs300000. Customs also impounded trailer valued Rs1.5million.
Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Director Syed Ittrat Hussain received a tip-off that an attempt will be made to smuggle Indian made fabrics. He formed a team comprising Superintendent Saleem Ullah Khan, Intelligence Officer Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Siddique and Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal and Khalid Ahmed.
ASO team intercepted a trailer with registration No: LSA-9766 loaded with container. During a search, ASO team recovered 14500-kg of Indian origin grey fabrics.
The team asked the accused persons, identified as Zeeshan Ikram (Importer), to provide the documents regarding its legal import but they failed to do so.
After their failure, customs team seized the fabrics under Import and Export Control Act-1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89 and 178 of Customs Act-1969. The seizure report has also been sent to adjudication for further legal action.
