FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled waterproofing aluminum (2340-kg) worth Rs01million involving duty and taxes of Rs769578 during a successful raid besides impounding a carrier mini truck worth Rs600000.
The intelligence team intercepted a Fiat Mini truck with Registration No: LES-14-2251 near Gutwala Toll Plaza Sheikhupura Road, Faisalabad, which was coming from Lahore and going to Bhakkar. The officials recovered foreign origin (F/O) waterproofing double-ply aluminum in a bundle of Iran make.
The team asked the driver named Muhammad Zeeshan Iftikhar son of Iftikhar Ahmed to show the documents regarding the legal import of the F/O aluminum. He produced a bilty No: 326 dated 8-3-2017 issued by Jeeway Sher Brothers, Faisalabad Bypass, Sargodha Road, Sheikhupura, and Gate Pass No: 19 dated 8-3-2017 issued by Mason Co. Gujranwala Road, Sheikhupura, in favour of Madina Tarcol Traders Abid Bhai. However he failed to produce any documentary evidence of the import of the recovered goods. The items were smuggled into the country after evading duty taxes. So the goods were confiscated.
Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Syed Ittrat Hussain had received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of said goods so he had formed a team, comprising Intelligence Officers Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Tariq, to abort the smuggling which it did successfully.
