FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation team confiscated foreign origin black pepper and cloth during road checking on Monday.
Sources told Customs Today that on credible information, Customs Intelligence team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration no: E-1213 Peshawar. The customs team on checking found foreign origin black pepper 55 bags having weight of 1320 kilograms and cloth 10 rolls having weight of 500 kilograms.
Sources said that the customs staff asked the accused person namely Muhammad Arif Siddique son of Muhammad Saddique owner of black pepper and Muhammad Zahid son of Muhammad Maalik claimant of cloth to produce legal documents regarding possession of cloth and black pepper but they failed to do so.
During investigation, the accused told that these goods were being transported from Faisalabad to Rawalpindi. It was observed that recovered items were brought without paying of customs duty and taxes.
The customs team confiscated the smuggled black pepper & cloth and registered a case of smuggling against the accused. The Customs Intelligence team forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
