FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has seized 550kg of smuggled cloth worth Rs6.5millions involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs225000 besides impounding a Toyota Corolla car priced at Rs1million.
Following secret information received through Collector Mirza Mubashir Baig regarding the smuggling of cloth, Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi constituted a raiding team comprising Inspector Farhan, Sepoys Muhammad Khalid Dogar, Ashraf Malik and Muhammad Yasin.
The ASO team raided the site of Saiyanwala Motorway Interchange Faisalabad and intercepted the said car bearing registration No: PP-455 (Islamabad). The team recovered foreign origin dyed art-silk printed cloth weighed 550kg of assorted colors. The superintendent asked the accused named Amir Khan son of Safdar Khan to show the documents regarding the legal import of the cloth. But he could not produce the required papers.
So the officials confiscated the item under customs bylaws. A case has been registered against the accused owners of the impounded cloth. The case has also been forwarded to the customs adjudication for further legal action.
