FAISALABAD: Custom Adjudication Faisalabad Additional Collector Amjad-ur-Rehman has ordered to confiscate a vehicle following the Clause 89(i)/2009 of Custom Act, 1969. The vehicle had been impounded on the suspicion of tampering with the chassis.
The case record reveals that despite granting adequate and ample chances of personal hearing to the respondent, he neither appeared personally nor sent any written reply to the show cause notice.
As per details, Customs Intelligence and Investigation intercepted Toyota Crown bearing Registration No.RIF-3216 and found that the chassis number was meddled with. Officials asked the driver, Ali Raza, to produce the relevant documents regarding the legal import or lawful possession of the said vehicle; however he could not present such documents.
After impounding the vehicle, customs officials sent the chassis for forensic test, which revealed that self-made chassis number has been welded on the actual number.
Later, the seizure report was forwarded to the adjudication department where Additional Collector Amjad declared the confiscation of the Toyota Crown lawful and issued Order-in-Original in favour of the customs.
