FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) conducted various operations against smugglers and recovered different goods worth Rs 2.7m during second week of January.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan constituted a team to curb smuggling attempts. The ASO team consisted of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Masood Saeed Chohan and Safdar Ali and sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.
The team seized non-duty paid vehicles valued Rs 1000,000 under Section (U/S 157).Under the said section, vehicles are used for smuggling transportation. The confiscated vehicle under Section (U/S 16 NDP) worth Rs, 500,000 was brought into country without payment of customs duty and taxes. Foreign origin (F/O) dinner sets and crockery (7,049-kg) priced Rs 564,087 were also taken into custody. All these items were brought into country without payment of customs duty and taxes.
The ASO team asked the accused to provide legal documents regarding the legal import of the items but he failed to do so.
Faisalabad ASO seized items with the section contravened Import and Export Control Act-1950 punishable under Section 156 (1)89(i) 90 of the Customs Act-1969. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
