FAISALABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Air Freight Unit (AFU) Faisalabad has confiscated over 451 pieces of smuggled foreign origin mobile phones and three dummies at the Faisalabad International Airport during a checking of Bahrain Flight No: GFA-790. The total cost of the confiscated mobile phones is about Rs05million. The mobile phones were brought from Bahrain via above said flight to Faisalabad.
Sources told Customs Today that the AFU team, under the supervision of Deputy Collector (DC) Airport Traffic Usman Tariq and Assistant Collector (AC) Samad Hamdani, comprising other staff including Superintendent Muhammad Javeed, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor and Tanveer Bajwa, intercepted two passengers and checked the invoices of the cellular phones and imported dummies. Both passengers named Abdul Samad and Tayyab Manzoor were seen coming with their luggage of handbags loaded on a trolley. Upon a doubtful movement of the said passengers, Customs team asked them to show the receipt or invoices but they failed to provide any relevant documents.
One of the two passengers namely Abdul Samad fled the scene leaving behind the said phones. However his accomplice Tayyab Manzoor has been arrested.
During the checking, the customs team found mobile sets Samsung Galaxy, Samsung S3, Samsung Galaxy S6 mobile, LG Lite and other different brands. The AFU seized mobiles under Section 168(1) of the Customs Act-1969 for violation of Section 2(s) read with SRO read with Section 3(1) and (3) of the Import and Export Control act-1969.
