LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf woman leader Andleeb Abbas has challenged extra sales tax on petroleum products in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The counsel for the petitioner, Shiraz Zaka, while arguing before the court, submitted that the federal government could not impose sales tax on petroleum products without getting approval from parliament, as per Article 77 of the Constitution.
However, 17 percent sales tax is being charged on petroleum products without seeking approval from parliament, he added.
In the petition appellant appeal to the Lahore High Court to order the government to stop the extra sales tax collection on the petroleum products because extra collection of sales tax is burden on general public.
Earlier, same petition was filed by leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rashid in the Lahore High Court. Sources told Customs Today that regular hearing of the case will start in near future.
