LAHORE: The Excise and Taxation Department has slapped a 10 percent fine on the token tax defaulters.
After 31 July, the department gave a one-month grace period to facilitate the citizens in paying their default amount at the same rate.
In September and October, a five percent fine was imposed on the defaulter vehicles, which has now increased to 10 percent.
Talking to Customs Today, Excise and Taxation Director Imran Aslam said that the government has given a huge relief to the people in this regard, adding that the defaulters were even provided one month grace period to pay their token taxes. According to the Tax and Motor Vehicle Ordinance, late token taxpayers were supposed to pay a 200 percent fine, but the government was receiving only 10 percent fine.
Aslam added that the department is already facing a huge shortfall in revenue as motorists were adamant in getting their vehicles registered in their name.
