LAHORE: The Excise and Taxation Department continued its crackdown against defaulters of property tax and token tax even on the last day of the current fiscal year 2014-15 and seized documents of 40 defaulting vehicles.
A number of properties was also sealed in different regions in Lahore, including Kasur and Nankana Sahib. Different teams continued their crackdown on defaulters to recover the outstanding dues. Penalty on token tax has waived off until June 30 to increase the revenue of the motor branch which is facing huge shortfall.
According to sources, the motor branch is facing heavy shortfall because the Federal Board of Revenue had increased transfer fee and withholding taxes. Due to heavy amount of these taxes, the sale and purchase of used very vehicles has decreased.
Excise Motor Branch formed many check-points at different entry and exit points of the city to keep check on defaulting vehicles. Director Motor branch Suhail Arshad is very vigilant in this regard and has strictly directed the officers to not spare any person in default.
During road checking last week Excise teams checked documents of hundreds of vehicles and seized documents. Most the vehicles were found token tax defaulter while Excise also seized some vehicles as well.
Excise and Taxation department formed checkpoints in entry and exit points of the city. Documents of the defaulters were seized at Jail Road, Liberty Chowk Gulberg Ferozpur Road Multan Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Wapda Town, Defense Housing Authority, Bund Road Shahdra and Sagian Bridge.
