LONDON: European stock markets remained mixed as London’s benchmark FTSE 100 index shed 0.26 per cent to stand at 6.678.9 points at the close of trading and CAC 40 in Paris slipped 0.75 per cent compared with Wednesday’s closing level to 4,234.21 points, while Frankfurt’s DAX 30 finished up 0.12 per cent to 9,483.97 points.
In Thursday trade, the European single currency edged down to $US1.2528 from $US1.2551 late in New York on Wednesday.
“Stocks saw a mildly negative open after Chinese manufacturing PMI stalled at a six-month low overnight,” Atif Latif, head of trading at Guardian Stockbrokers in London, said.
“Losses then accelerated as investors digested weak eurozone PMI figures,” he said.
The FTSE’s miners were dragged down by the Chinese numbers, he added. Shares in Anglo American dropped 2.23 per cent and Rio Tinto lost 2.62 per cent.
