Electricity prices expected to rise by Rs0.57

ISLAMABAD: The per unit price of electricity is expected to rise by Rs0.57 after the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sent a request to NEPRA.

According to the request, in April 9.71 billion units of electricity were produced at a cost of Rs53.63 billion. NEPRA states that the request to increase the price was made under April’s fuel price adjustment.

On Friday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recommended up to 47 per cent increase in the prices of gas for the fiscal year 2019-2020, according to a spokesman for the regulator.

The spokesman said Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had requested the regulator for 144 per cent hike in gas price, whereas Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) sought 30 per cent increase.

He said public hearings were held on requests by the gas supplying companies in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.

The spokesman said OGRA has recommended an average of 47 per cent hike in SNGPL system and 28 per cent in SSGC system.

He said a final decision regarding an increase in gas prices would be made after approval from the federal government.
