AMSTERDAM: Three Dutch women have been jailed for smuggling £88,000 of cocaine into Britain in their knickers.
The trio – who were travelling on a Eurolines coach from Amsterdam – were stopped by Border officers in Dover, Kent, in December last year. And when officers asked them if they were bringing in any drugs the mothers stunned guards by producing 740 grams of cocaine from their underwear .
Now the three smugglers: Cristy Cicilia,35, Michelnelle Martin,38, and Nataly Welvaart,35, all from Rotterdam have received jail terms totalling 14 years. Their barrister Niall Doherty told Canterbury Crown Court that all three were in debt and agreed the drugs run for cash.
“They took a huge risk when they agreed to be couriers. And they got caught and now they are devastated knowing the consequences they face.”
