ISLAMABAD: Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue is planning to trap the Pakistani millionaires who are making investment in real estate sector of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) through a UAE-based company Damaq but avoiding to pay taxes in the country.
Sources said that intelligence has gathered the record of almost 646 people who contacted the said company to purchase property in Dubai. Damaq is a real estate agency which facilitates the persons showing interest in purchasing of property in Dubai and it has also published advertisement in Pakistani newspapers in this regard.
IR Intelligence has sent the data of 646 Pakistanis to the State Bank of Pakistan seeking detail of their family trees’ bank accounts along with the record of banking transactions made by them.
Similarly, intelligence has also transferred the phone calls record of alleged person to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) with their names and addresses to probe the case further.
However, department has issued notices to the alleged persons asking the source of income, national tax number and record of tax returns.
Sources said that numbers of Pakistani billionaires were also included in the list, adding that most of the persons did not have NTN.
They added that 16 people from Lahore contacted to the Damaq to purchase property in Dubai and also paid visit to Dubai in this regard.
They revealed $1.5 billion have been transferred through different real estate channels to different countries.
