DHAKA: Directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI)’s Ahmedabad zonal unit passed on specific input to Customs department on Tripura-Bangladesh border on the basis of which persons were caught smuggling foreign currency. It is sixth incident for the DRI in past four months.
Officials, received information that three persons – Sanju Vasita, Bhavesh and Mohan Ramkishan, residents of Thane, Maharashtra, will be taking a flight to Dubai from Dhaka airport. The trio was to take Agartala-Akhura road on Tripura-Bangladesh border where an integrated check-post (ICP) is located. DRI passed on the message to ICP on the basis of which the trio was nabbed with assorted foreign currencies like euro, dollars and Bangladeshi taka worth about Rs 20 lakh. “It was found that the three were working as carriers for smuggled gold which they were to carry in their rectum. For each trip, they would get Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. Further probe is on,” said an official.
