Importers demand NAB prob over clearance of prohibited consignments
KARACHI: Legal importers has shown serious grave concern over the continues embezzlement through Green, Yellow Channels and Trans shipment as well as the Principal Appraiser Dost Muhammad Incharge R&D section who remains apple of Customs Appraisement East Collectorate’s eye.
According to the details, several cases on of smuggling and embezzlement through Green Channel, Yellow Channels as well as through Transshipment has been surfaced over which the genuine importers showing serious concern has now requested the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take action against those involve in heinous crime.
Despite having records and early information the department of Customs R&D is not heeding over the mis-declaration through which several prohibited items including hazard chemicals and betal nuts are being cleared through Green Channel, Yellow Channel as well as through Transshipment.
Despite several allegation and complaints, Customs Appraisement East Collectorate is not interested to even question Principal Appraiser Dost Muhammad Incharge R&D section over it or has sought any explanation regarding the concern of importers.
Recently smuggled items were very easily cleared through sea ports of the country after which the consignments were dumped at different godowns in the city but due to the blanket of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) the goods got apprehended on different localities.
The major case of busting the smuggled prohibited betal nuts worth Rs1.5 billion in market, Directorate Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) also nominated nineteen accused in the FIR but none belong to Customs department as all the consignments are used to get cleared through after the strict scrutiny of the Customs officers.
Importers have demanded higher authorities to investigate against the clearance of smuggled prohibited consignments and requested the NAB to bring the customs officials into investigations who are involved in clearance of several bogus consignments through Green, Yellow Channels and transshipment.
