MUSINA: A truck driver has been arrested at the Beitbridge border post for allegedly trying to smuggle diamonds and gold, and then bribe an official, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.
A border official instructed the 45-year-old man to move his truck into a scanner, but he refused, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.
The driver allegedly offered the official R200 not to scan his truck. It was scanned and, after undeclared goods were found during a physical search, the driver allegedly tried to offer an R800 bribe.
Diamonds and gold nuggets were found covered in brown tape and hidden in toilet rolls. The man was arrested and was expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon.
