ISLAMABAD: Directorate-General Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) Zahid Khokhar has said that there should be a module for registering of seized smuggled goods which enter and exit from SWHs and module should be attached with WeBOC system so in and out of goods could be visible to all relevant agencies.
He said that Directorate General of Customs I&I has started audit of Customs Warehouses (SWHs) because there should be a transparent system to know about entry and exit of the foreign origin non-duty paid smuggled or seized goods from state owned warehouses, especially those goods or non-duty paid vehicles possessed by the DG I&I. All said items must be registered in proper system to minimize the human interaction.
DG Customs I&I said that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) booked several officials for involvement in theft of goods worth millions from the State Warehouse Quetta, as well as from Lahore and Karachi. He said that the Directorate took strict action in this regard and some of Customs Intelligence officials found involved in theft had been suspended and punished.
He said that he was drafting a note for FBR for installation of CCTV cameras in all State owned warehouses to prevent any misshape. He disclosed a new idea that there should be a module attached with WeBOC to monitor goods entry and exit from the state warehouses.
