ISLAMABAD: Deputy Collector Adjudication Ubaidullah has directed the customs authorities to release seized goods on payment of leviable duty and taxes thereon and 20 percent penalty of their appraised values. He also order to release an offending vehicle on payment of Rs 35000 fine.
According to details, Superintendent, Customs Preventive Zargham Dil received information through assistant collector that foreign origin goods would be smuggled from Rawalpindi by a truck bearing registration NoLRC-2492.
To check the veracity of the information, a raiding party of the customs preventive set up a check post on GT Road Rawat . On 07.03.2016 at about 1230 hours, the reported truck was sighted coming from Rawalpindi side which was signaled to stop by a uniform sepoy. A detailed search of the saidvehicle led to the recovery of F/oMisc.goods. He reported that, at the time of occurrence, the driver of the vehicle identified himself as Azeem (driver) C/o Balaj Cargo Service, Arbab Lai Plaza Lunda Bazar Rawalpindi and on demand, he failed to produce any evidence documentary or otherwise,showing legal import or lawful possession of the recovered goods.
Customs authorities seized the goods and vehicle and forwarded the case to customs adjudication for further proceedings.
On the scheduled date of hearing, the respondent appeared in person and reiterated that whatever they had been stated in their aforesaid application wherein they stated that they are ready to pay leviable duty taxes on their goods and Raja Sikander is responsible for whole case.
After hearing the arguments deputy collector Ubaidullah directed customs authorities to release goods, and vehicle after payment of taxes and fine.
