LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Mohammad Hasan Farid has directed the release of a non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser bearing registration No. JA-191 (Islamabad) after payment of duty and taxes.
According to the details, the anti-smuggling staff of the Customs Preventive intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser bearing registration no: JA-191 (Islamabad) near Bhordwala Chowk, Allama Iqbal Road Lahore. The person on the driving seat identified himself as Muhammad Saleem, a resident of Rinala Khurd, district Okara. On demand, the person produced a photocopy of registration book of the vehicle and requested to allow time for submission of valid proof showing lawful import of the vehicle. The particulars available on the said registration book were crossed checked and found that such number was allowed to a jeep Toyota FJ-40 bearing chassis number 183950.
The anti-smuggling team detained the vehicle and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. During the proceedings, the owner of the vehicle appeared before the Deputy Collector and told him that he purchased the vehicle from a person and was unaware about that its chassis number was cut and welded. He also stated that he was ready to pay and duty and taxes applicable on him according to law.
After examining the whole case Deputy Collector of Customs Adjudication Mohammad Hasan Farid directed to release the vehicle after payment of duty and taxes according to law.
It is necessary to mention here that Customs Adjudication expedited their efforts to conclude the hearing of pending cases on priority basis.
