FAISALABAD: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz ordered to confiscate foreign origin polyester thread and plastic dana worth Rs710220 and Hino truck being used for transportation of smuggled items.
Sources told Customs Today Deputy Collector Saima Ayyaz heard a case filed by Sarai Muhajir ASO against Taj Muhammad. She issued Order in original (ONO) no 62/2018 in favor of the customs department and ordered to seize the items along with trucks under the customs laws.
As per details, the ASO team following credible information intercepted Hino trucks bearing number LES-15-7366 near Samanabad bridge Sargodha road and recovered 22,220 kilograms of China origin polyester thread and plastic dana.
The ASO team asked owner named Taj Muhammad to produce documents regarding the legal possession and import of polyester plastic dana. But the owner has remained fail to do the same.
The ASO team seized the items and impounded trucks. besides registering cases against them under Section 168 and 157 of the Custom Act, 1969 for the violation of Section 2(s) read with SRO 566(1)/2005 Section 16, 18 of the customs act.
Later, the case was sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action where customs Superintendent Sardar Muhammad Choudhary argued that the recovered items were brought into the country through an unauthorized route without payment of leviable duty and taxes and asked the court to issue order for confiscation of the goods.
However, the respondents could not defend the allegation of smuggling or produce any documentary evidence before the adjudication. Therefore, the deputy collector stated that it was crystal clear that the foreign origin seized goods were smuggled one and brought into country illegally by evading duty, taxes leviable thereon and ordered to impound the truck and polyester thread and plastic dana under Section 156(1) 89 of the Custom Act 1969.
