Delayed grounding of containers: DG ports to chair meeting in early Jan

KARACHI: DG Ports & Shipping Abdul Malik Ghouri would chair the third meeting to help resolve the issue pertaining to delayed grounding of containers early next month.

Two meetings have already been held with all the three on-dock terminal operators to help resolve an issue which is costing the importers pay substantial additional costs in demurrage and detention charges.

It may be mentioned that DG Ghouri, who assumed responsibilities of his office a few months ago, called the meetings with the on-dock terminator operators on the complaint of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The KCCI had asked DG Ghouri to take notice of persistent delayed for grounding issue which is costing importers anywhere from $ 60-120 per day in container detention charge by the shipping companies  and as much as Rs 2,000-4,000 a day demurrage charge by port operators for no fault of their own. The second meeting was held at the KLDB Building in Karachi a few days ago.
