ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board Revenue (FBR) will take stern actions against non-filers, as it has been decided not to extend the deadline for Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS) from April 30, it is learnt.
Sources told Customs Today that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to PM on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan, FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and other members have agreed in this regard following the unsatisfactory results of the scheme.
The FBR will serve notices on the traders who will not take benefit of the tax amnesty, the sources said, adding that a list of non-filers has been prepared with the help of the Regional Tax offices (RTOs).
The high ups have decided that resources and time will not be wasted in this scheme, and the traders will be dealt according to the tax laws. The sources said that FBR chairman and other members of the board were not in favour of the scheme but it was launched on the demand and assurance of the traders for bringing numerous non-taxpayers into the tax net.
With the passage of time, the assumptions of the FBR proved true regarding the failure of VTCS. Now, the FBR has moral and legal authority to recover the taxes from the defaulters without giving any exemptions to them.
