Dastgir slams hurdles in exports enhancement

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Commerce and Textile Engineer Khurram Dastgir has resented the inconsistent economic policies of the country which, according to him, is the main obstacle to enhance exports.

He said this at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce, presided by Senator Haji Ghulam Ali.

“There is no predictability in Pakistan’s economic policies. One day we allow export of an item and the next day we withdraw the decision. We have to come out of this if we are to do business in accordance with 21st Century requirements. We have to bring predictability and stability in policies”, said Dastgir.

Grieving the law and order situation he said, “Importers are not coming to Pakistan due to law and order situation. They invite their business partners to Dubai”. The Commerce Minister added that energy crisis is another main obstacle in enhancement of exports.

The Commerce Minister informed the committee that the Commerce Ministry will bring a balanced policy in the next few months in consultation with all stakeholders.

The minister was, however, happy about GSP Plus status for Pakistan to be approved by the European Union next month, adding that conclusion of the package will start from January 2014.
