ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has directed the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and Foreign Office to hold a donors conference after preparing a report on assessment of damages by floods in the country.
The finance minister passed the orders while chairing the 3rd meeting to review the flood situation and relief and rescue activities. He was also given a presentation on Multi-Sector Initial Rapid Assessment (MIRA), which outlines the initial estimates of the damages caused by the floods in the areas of Punjab, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. NDMA Chairman Maj Gen Muhammad Saeed Aleem briefed him on initial assessment conducted in five districts, including Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Jhang and Multan.
Ishaq Dar also directed the Secretary Cabinet and Secretary EAD to undertake recovery need assessment with the help of UNDP and damage need assessment with the help of WB/ADB simultaneously for more accurate estimate of flood damages. He urged the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to work for the restoration of damaged schools and ensure availability of staff.
