TORKHAM: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled an attempt to smuggle US Dollars and Saudi Riyals worth Rs 21 million into Afghanistan on Tuesday evening. The ASO staff also arrested the suspect.
According to Additional Deputy Collector Customs Station Torkham Fazle Shakoor, the Customs staff of Torkham, on a tip-off given by Collector Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar Qurban Ali Khan, foiled the attempt of smuggling for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Torkham staff seized 100,000 Saudi Riyal and 40,000 US dollars. The currencies were seized during the body search of one Faraz Khan. The Additional Deputy Collector told Customs Today that the seizure is preceded by seizure of four lakh Saudi Riyals and one lakh UAE Dirham. He told CT that Customs ASO squad had tightened the checking of outgoing and incoming passengers and vehicles on the directions of Collector Customs Qurban Ali Khan.
