Doha: Inspectors of the General Authority of Customs have seized 2,873 kg (2.8 tonnes) of prohibited tobacco materials at Hamad Port under the direction of the Maritime Customs.
The seizure was made by the customs officers through the introduction of the shipment on the X-ray machine for accurate examination. The tobacco materials were hidden inside water heaters.
Director of the Customs Department Abdul Hadi al Sahli thanked the inspectors for their efforts and dedication to work, which resulted in the discovery of the contraband and the eventual seizure.
He also lauded the customs officers for their efficiency and field experience, stressing that the authority would take immediate legal action against the smugglers.
The authority has recently made a number of seizures of narcotic substances, confirming the vigilance of customs officials in preventing the entry of narcotic substances into the country.
