PESHAWAR: A modern customs terminal will be established on Torkham border at Rs12billion to provide all possible facilities to exporters and importers. Five billion dollar revenue target has been set from the import and export on the said border in near future.
These views were expressed by Collector Customs Peshawar Division Qurban Ali while addressing a representatives’ gathering of the Customs Clearing Agents Association held at Customs Colony, Landi Kotal, on Thursday.
Flanked by Assistant Collector, Torkham Customs Center, Fazal Shakoor, Collector Qurban Ali said that on the direction of the Federal Board of Revenue, some meetings have been convened with officials of Torkham Custom House and clearing agents community to get information of their problems and take necessary steps to further boost import and export on Torkham border.
He further said that setup of a modern custom dry port will be approved in the next week that will not only increase trade but also provide job opportunities to the tribesmen. It is the desire of government to export Pakistani commodities to every local market of Afghanistan and central Asian countries, Qurban stressed.
Qurban Ali disclosed that in the recent year, volume of seized goods has doubled as compared to last year.
In replaying to the reservations of the customs clearing agents regarding the political administration and National Logistic Cell (NLC), he assured them of solving their problems after discussing with the officials concerned.
Prior to the meeting, Chairman Customs Clearing Agents Association, Torkham, Mirajuddin Shinwari apprised the collector Peshawar of the problems being faced by the clearing agents.
