PESHAWAR: A Customs sepoy Irfan embraced martyrdom on Sunday when he fall down from bus top while performing his duty by checking the luggage of a bus traveling from Peshawar to Punjab.
Sources told Customs Today that after orders from Collector Mohammad Saeed Jadoon to curb smuggling, drive has been speed up by Customs squads and check posts have been established for checking of vehicle loaded with goods crossing the borders.
Sources said that on GT Road, the Customs Mobile-I intercepted a bus for checking purposes which was stuffed with NDP goods.
A Customs sepoy went inside the bus while other climbed on the bus roof for checking of luggage. All of sudden, the driver wanted to escape and speed up the bus due to which the customs sepoy fell down and embraced martyrdom on the way to hospital.
The Customs sepoy has been identified as Irfan whose body was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where no Customs high-ups visited yet.
An FIR has been registered against the killing of Customs sepoy by the bus driver and he has been arrested by the local police.
The police sources informed that the sepoy was shifted to the hospital immediately but he succumbed to head injury. The police informed Customs Today that NDP cloth and other items had been recovered from the bus.
When contacted the officials at Peshawar Customs House, they responded that the body of Irfan has been shifted to his home town, adding that the Peshawar Customs House will pursue his case and investigation will be done upon his tragic killing.
