SARGODHA: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation’s Field Unit Sargodha has seized 375 kilogram illegally imported Indian black tea worth Rs450000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs225000.
Sources told Customs Today that, following a tip-off, a customs team, comprising Deputy Director Irfan Shouqat, Superintendent Muhammad Tahir, Intelligence Officer Saad Iqbal and Sepoys Ashraf Qureshi, Muhammad Khalil and Asad Iqbal, raided Chowk near Jhal Chakian, KhushabRoad Sargodha, and intercepted a trailer No: JU 5345 loaded with foreign origin black team weighed 375kg, gold brand with production date 10/2017, expiry date 10/2020.
The officials asked the possessor of the items namely Sajid-ud-Rehman son of Ghulam Nabi to show documents regarding the legal import of tea but he failed to do the same.
The officials confiscated the tea under Section 2(s) 16 178 of the Customs Act-1969 read with Section 3(1)3 of the Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156 (1)89 of the Customs Act.
A seizure report has been submitted to the adjudication for further action.
