FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Sarai Muhajir has recovered the smuggling ladies shoes worth Rs2.6million involving customs duties and taxes of Rs1million during a crackdown besides impounding a trailer worth Rs300000.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Customs Intelligence Syed Ittrat Hussain received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt. He formed a customs team comprising Muhammad Siddique, Irshad Ali, Muhammad Saleem and Sepoy Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique, Muzamil Hussain and others.
The customs team executed a raid near Sarai Muhajir, district Bhakkar, and intercepted a trailer No: JU-6885 loaded with 1500-carton of ladies shoes brought into the country without payment of duties and taxes.
The customs team asked the accused, identified as Muhammad Nasir son of Gul Muhammad, a resident of Dhok Mariwala, Mianwali, to produce the legal documents regarding the possession of ladies shoes but he failed to do so. Therefore the authorities concerned confiscated the item.
A seizure report has been submitted to the Adjudication Department for further investigation.
