KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Shah Fahad and Laloo to customs lock-up on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid betel nuts.
On February 2, 2019, investigation officer produced above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a credible information, customs officials intercepted one Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep bearing registration no plate BF-5933 and found 35 bags containing foreign origin betel nuts in crushed fro, each weighing 30 kg total 1050 kg valuing of Rs. 291,900.
He further argued that during the investigation, said vehicle also was found to be smuggled/ non-duty paid valuing of Rs. 3,000,000 and prosecution needs further investigation from arrested suspects, therefore, court may send them to physical remand. After the hearing court sent them back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156, (2) and 178 of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause 8 & 89 of section 156 (1) ibid read with section 3 (I) of imports & export control act, 1950.
