Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle heavy ammunition

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Thursday foiled a bid to smuggle heavy ammunition from Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIP).

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Ahmed Rauf received credible information that an attempt would be made to smuggle some contraband items. He immediately passed on instructions to Additional Collector Tayyaba Kiyani regarding strict vigilance.

Sources told that at around 5am, 3 suspected mishandled hand carry bags pertaining to Flight EK 622 were taken into custody by customs staff which were left on belt by some unscrupulous passenger in view of tight vigilance.

During physical examination, 4600 bullets of different caliber/size and 800 empty cases of bullets were recovered. The goods were seized and criminal proceedings initiated. Attempts are being made to trace the whereabouts of the accused passenger, the sources concluded.
